PCSO Recruitment

The Home Office has introduced a National PCSO recruitment process which most forces in England and Wales have now adopted. No matter which force you apply for, all have the same, fair and transparent recruitment process.

Stage 4 - Medical Examination

The role of a police officer is often physically and, equally, mentally demanding. Forces assess candidates medical state to ensure that they are suitable for the role, both now and in the future. At present forces seek to recruit individuals until the age of 55 or 30 years services (whichever is sooner).

Forces therefore adopt a stringent medical criteria to eliminate officers retiring early on medical grounds as this is expensive. They also have a duty of care for each employee, thus will not allow individuals to join whom have medical conditions which could pose harm or danger to themselves or their colleagues. An example of such a medical condition which is likely to prevent you from joining is insulin-dependant diabetes mellitus (IDDM).
